Bay Area shows this weekend with Foxtails Brigade, Yip Deceiver & Papercuts!

yip deceiver live!A series of great shows this weekend in the Bay Area, check it out!

First, on Friday 12/2, Yip Deceiver (see photo) rolls into Oakland for a FREE show at the Uptown, part of the First Friday Art Murmur. The band features members of Sugar & Gold as well as of Montreal, and their live show is always a rocks off dance party. For more info on the show, check the Event page, here.

The same night in San Francisco (Friday, 12/2), chanteuse extraordinaire Laura Weinbach and her band Foxtails Brigade open a very special show for the one and only Jane Birkin at the Regency Ballroom. For information and advance tickets, click here. The following night, Saturday December 3rd, Foxtails Brigade head over to the Mission for an intimate show at Viracocha. Both shows will be the debut of the brand new Foxtails Brigade Christmas CD, so be sure to head out to one or both shows to pick up a copy! For more info on both shows, check the event page here.

Are we done yet? Not a chance! Also on Saturday, December 3rd, Papercuts headline a great lineup at the Rickshaw Stop! Noise Pop Presents Papercuts, with Dominant Legs and Tim Cohen’s Magic Trick. This is a rare SF performance for Papercuts, and with these great acts opening, this is not a show to miss. Advance tickets are recommended as this show will likely sell out. Get them here.

Finally, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention that the Agent Ribbons Brooklyn residency ALSO starts this Friday, with 5 shows in our fave NYC Borough, plus a quick run upstate for a show at Bard College. For the full itinerary, click here!

SXSW 2011 Wrap Up!

Ah yes, another SXSW has come and gone, a million excellent performances, beers, and gray tacos consumed, and the out of towners have departed, leaving the Austinites to clean up the mess. We at Antenna Farm had a great time, even if we don’t have stories of imminent riots or artist-on-crowd violence to share…

First off, a hearty thanks to The Ghost Room, our new favorite venue in Austin, who hosted the Antenna Farm showcase. What a great room, super comfortable, and great sound. Kudos! A big thanks to Yip Deceiver and Judgement Day, who rounded out our showcase. And also a huge thanks to the folks at Nail, Wiretap, SF Embassy, SFitAll, the Rheeperbahn, and everyone else who invited AF artists to play their events. Rager!

But back to the performances. I suppose I could discuss them, but why bother when the videographers were so copious! Below are three short vids from the AF & Friends showcase, featuring Agent Ribbons, Social Studies, and Sugar & Gold, shot by the inimitable Bob Boilen of NPR. And the 4th video is a special performance by Foxtails Brigade, shot at the lovely Hotel Driskill by our friends at WomensRadio. Enjoy!

ANT536 – Sugar & Gold – Bodyaches

Following nearly two years of non-stop touring and recording, Sugar & Gold released their sophomore LP, Get Wet! in 2010. Get Wet! saw the band expand their musical palette to incorporate elements of electro, new wave psychedelia, and german minimalism, woven together in a framework of transcendent modern pop.

The Bodyaches EP features two brand new Sugar & Gold tracks (the falsettofunk of Versatile Reciever and the atmospheric Medellin Moonlight) as well as a collection of Get Wet! cuts, remixed by a team as eclectic as the album itself. The electro funk banger Sneek Freq is given a laid back dub reduction by Sorcerer (Tirk Records, AKA Dan Judd of Rubies and Call & Response) while All Over You gets an arpeggiated pop remix courtesy of S&G tourmates Yip Deceiver (led by Davey X, bass player for of Montreal). Retro-futurist Loose Shus (Plant Records) brings the drama in a driving, bass heavy remix of Bodyaches, and Salty Seraphim is given a half-tempo, darkwave makeover by Maus Haus, one of San Francisco’s most popular live acts. The EP is rounded out by a pounding house mix of Feels Like Fire by Birmingham newcomer Nastique (AKA Dani Deluna, Kids Got The Disco).

The Bodyaches EP is released by Antenna Farm to DSPs worldwide on March 8, 2011.
