Coming on Valentines Day! Bart Davenport – Someone2Dance 7″ !!

Bart Davenport - Someone2Dance 7"Antenna Farm is proud to present Bart Davenport’s newest release, a new 7″, each side a blistering nail in the coffin of romance…Just in time for Valentine’s Day!

Following up his critically acclaimed 2010 covers album Searching For Bart Davenport, this is a blast of power pop right out of 1980. A-side Someone2Dance channels equal parts Dwight Twilley and The Cars; a righteous affirmation of romantic liberation awash in reverb and complete with meltdown guitar solo. B-side Cheap Words deconstructs earlier pop versions of the song, with producer and longtime BD collaborator Sam Flax matching the dark lyric with a bed of minimal synthesizer and drum machine (PS…to check out some of Sam’s songs, which are killer in their own right, head over to his page at HigherColor.com).

But don’t take our word for it. Check out the A-side, Someone2Dance:

The Someone2Dance 7″ is a co-release with San Francisco’s Smile! Records, the new imprint from Bay Area svengali Neil Martinson. The vinyl is limited to a print run 500 copies, with covers hand-screened by Neil, and each copy comes with an MP3 download code. Pre-orders from the Antenna Farm Store will ship the first week of February, plenty of time to get you in the mood for our least favorite holiday. Click here for more info.

And for those of you in the Bay Area, Smile! is presenting the record release party on Friday, February 17th at San Francisco’s Cafe DuNord, with Sam Flax, Extra Classic, and of course, DJ Neil Martinson. Get tickets here.

SF Mission Creek Music Fest This Week!

This week the Mission Creek Music Festival returns to SF and Oakland. There are a bunch of shows happening in both SF and the East Bay over the next week with performances by some of our favorite local bands like The Blank Tapes, Lenz, Ty Segall, 3 Leafs, and more….but we’d like to draw your attention to three shows in particular.

First, this Thursday, September 8th at San Francisco’s Cafe DuNord, join local heroes Bart Davenport and Kelley Stoltz as they welcome psychedelic legend Peter Daltrey, performing a veritable nuggets box of songs from his days as lead singer for Kaleidoscope. Astral.

On Sunday afternoon (Sept. 11), chanteuse Helene Renaut will be performing at a poolside party at San Francisco’s legendary Phoenix Hotel. AF band Social Studies played here earlier this year and it’s a blast. Show starts at 2pm.

And finally, this Saturday, September 10th is the big blowout, the Free Mclaren Park Mission Creek outdoor show. This has been a gas the past couple of years, and this year promises no different, with a hard hitting lineup of local talent, food trucks and more. Dress warm!

Antenna Farm Birthday Celebration This Friday, December 17th!

Man, it’s the end of the year and we’re running ragged! The Antenna Farm Holiday Sale is off the rails and the orders are keeping us super busy, it’s great! If you haven’t yet checked it out, head over to the AF Store and enter promo code ‘falala25′ when you check out for a 25% discount on ALL CDs & LPs through the entire month of December!

But that’s not enough. Friday, December 17th, SMiLE presents a birthday celebration for Paul and Jill, the two cranky Capricorns behind Antenna Farm Records, and you’re invited!

Joining us will be a pair of our favorite AF artists: Social Studies and Agent Ribbons, with special guests Amores Vigilantes. And SMiLE maestro Neil Martinson will be playing groovy tunes on the turntables all night.

This is at a great new venue, The Burritt Room at San Francisco’s Crescent Hotel (417 Stockton @ Sutter) and the show is FREE! So come on out this Friday night for a great show and a fun little get-together! We’ll see you there!

Agent Ribbons prep California shows, featured in BUST!

They’re back!

Fresh off a 3 week run through France Portugal, and Spain, Agent Ribbons are recuperating for a minute in Austin before heading back to California for a week’s worth of pre-holiday shows, including stops in Oakland, SF, LA, Sacramento, and Grass Valley. If you haven’t yet picked up a copy of their excellent new album, Chateau Crone, this is a great opportunity to get a CD or LP direct from the band. Tour dates below.

Meanwhile, one of the last cool magazines left, BUST, has got a full page Agent Ribbons feature by renowned music critic Everett True. And yes, BUST is a bit old fashioned, and you can’t read this online. But it’s a great interview with Natalie that’s well worth the trip down to your local periodicals merchant (in Oakland, we recommend the fine establishment Issues, off Piedmont Ave.).

Social Studies return to SF, play the Indie Mart on Sunday

Social Studies SF Popfest1Social Studies return from their US tour, a manic 3 week blitz that included several CMJ shows and props from none other than Michael Stipe. Whaa?

Yeah, we’re not sure what that’s all about either, but you locals can get the skinny from the band themselves this Sunday afternoon/early evening, as they play the SF Indie Mart afterparty at Thee Parkside.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Indie Mart, check it: “For our last Street Fair of the year, we are busting out no stops…85 vendors with the best in local designers, handmade, vintage, rebuilt, art, screenprints & live printing, letterpress & lots of free & low cost fun things to make at several of our DIY stations.  OUR FAVORITE BANDS ALL DAY & A KILLER AFTERPARTY SHOW!  Stellar DJ’s. Drink specials, tasty BBQ, tots, photobooth from Magnolia, awesome times.”

Yo, it’s a blast. Some of the other bands that are playing are Magic Bullets, Hot Lunch, and the Finches, so you know this will be good. Social Studies play at 7:30.

After this show, join the AF crew as we truck over to the Knockout to catch up-and-coming LA band George Glass, playing their first SF show, put on by the inimitable Neil Martison of Smile. Opening the show will be Silent Pictures and Italian/French sensation, Grimoon. A fun packed day to be sure, you heard it here first, San Francisco!
