Antenna Farm Tour Update!

It must be that time of year! It feels like everyone we know is on tour and sometimes it gets hard to keep up. New shows are announced, secret special guests pop out of the woodwork, and nobody gets any sleep! But hey, that’s how we like it. Here is a brief rundown on three bands out working hard to bring their music to the people, burning miles on $4/gallon gas. Make sure to check them out in your town!

Tonight it’s Monterey, before the Bottom of the Hill in SF on Friday, then on up to Portland and Seattle. Both of these bands put on a great show, so be sure to come on out. Bay Area friends, we’ll see you on Friday at the Bottom!

And finally, Bart Davenport is wrapping up his Spanish solo tour before taking a short break and heading right back out with his new psychedelic hang band, The Incarnations. An outgrowth of NYC’s Phenomenal Handclap Band, The Incarnations are a power trio featuring BD, alongside Daniel and Bing from the PHCB, mashing the best of their yacht rock tendencies with a psyche-garage hard edge. Tuff.

Bart Davenport on tour in Europe!

Antenna Farm is pleased to announce that Bart Davenport has departed for Europe, on a 2+ month tour that will include solo dates in Germany and Spain, a French tour with Honeycut, and dates across Europe with Incarnations.

Bart has a great new solo album he’s promoting, called Searching For Bart Davenport, released in Germany by our friends at Tapete. The LA Weekly had this to say about it:

“Davenport has the clear timbre of a James Taylor and a gentle acoustic touch, but this impeccable selection of deep covers betrays a rarer sensibility: Bert Jansch, non-obvious Arthur Lee and Caetano Veloso, Bridget St. John, Gil Scott-Heron — yep, dude’s one of ours.”

You can grab a copy of Searching For Bart Davenport on LP or CD format here.

It’s worth noting that Bart is also promoting the French release of a new Honeycut album, called Comedians. Focused on organic songwriting, the album is a giant stylistic leap forward from the band’s debut, and sure to quickly become a new audio essential.

In short, it’s hard to keep up with BD, one of the most respected singer-songwriters in the Bay Area, but let’s try!

Presenting…. “Searching For Bart Davenport”

Shortly after a European tour back in early 2010, German label Tapete approached Bart Davenport about doing an album with them. They wanted to discuss doing an record that would be closer to his solo acoustic performances than anything he’d released previously, the idea being to just record Bart with just acoustic guitar and voice….plus a good amount of reverb!

Bart liked the idea, but proposed a small twist: instead of doing originals, the album would be made up of covers of some of his favorite singer songwriters. People familiar with BD’s live shows know he has a penchant for great and inventive covers, drawn from a wide range of classic songwriters. The result is the revelatory new album, Searching For Bart Davenport.

And indeed, you may recognize a few tracks contained herein. With just his guitar and gentle baritone, Bart takes on songs by Broadcast, Love, Gil Scott-Heron, The Moore Brothers, Kings of Convenience, Bert Jansch, The Incredible String Band, Caetano Veloso and more, stripping them of their ornate garments and shimmering jewelry in order to reveal their inner beauty, the way only Bart Davenport can do.

Through a special arrangement with Tapete Records, Antenna Farm is pleased to make a limited run of Searching For Bart Davenport available on LP or CD through the Antenna Farm store (LPs pressed on 140 gram vinyl and come with high quality MP3 download card). This is an import and is not scheduled for an American release, but for a limited time, you can find a copy right here.

To get a feel for Searching For Bart Davenport, check the video for BD’s cover of Broadcast’s ‘Come On Let’s Go”. Recorded months before Trish Keenan’s tragic death, the song is a touching tribute to her work, a radical reworking from the original that is nonetheless a fitting remembrance of her immense talent as a songwriter.
