Agent Ribbons Head East! Pre-Order Chateau Crone NOW!

Do not miss this. The Antenna Farm crew trooped out to the venerable Bottom of the Hill last week to go see our newest signing and to restore our faith in the transcendent power of good music. We were not disappointed.

In these days of instant internet hype and the opinions of a few tastemakers set to infinite repeat, it’s easy to get cynical and easily dismissive of new music. Well, Agent Ribbons is the cure for that malaise, three women who rock like Girls in the Garage doing the Three Penny Opera, literate and moving and tougher than leather.

Here’s what I’m talking about:

Agent Ribbons – I’m Alright

So even if you don’t feel like your mojo has dropped to dangerously low levels, you still need to heed the call. If Agent Ribbons is coming to your town, drop what you are doing and make a date with your best friend, your lover, your boss, or your mother. And if they’re not hitting your town this time around, hold tight. This band loves to tour, and they will see you soon!

And for those who can’t wait, Agent Ribbons new CD, Chateau Crone, is now available for pre-order from the Antenna Farm Store (vinyl fans, hold tight, copies coming in a few weeks!!). Antenna Farm Welcomes Agent Ribbons!

Agent RibbonsWe are pleased to announce the newest addition to the Antenna Farm roster, Austin’s (by way of Sacramento) Agent Ribbons!

Agent Ribbons isn’t just a band–it’s a tree house club of post-feminist dreamers trying to find their place in the scheme of things, like a hand-sewn and lovingly-crafted garment in a modern, disposable world. Musically, an impeccable taste in influences (from the Zombies to Eartha Kitt, The Breeders to the Velvet Underground, and beyond…) helps them find a sound that is both classically informed and yet innovative and fresh sounding. They miraculously reconcile seemingly-unrelated genres and make it seem easy, sounding something like Girls in the Garage doing the Three Penny Opera.

Agent Ribbons have been doing their thing for a few years now, and since 2007, the band has toured the U.S. more times than they can remember. Some of those tours were with big national acts like Camera Obscura, Cake, Detroit Cobras and Girl in a Coma, and the rest were done vigilante-style in a Chevy Astro. A move in 2010 saw the Ribbons pull up their Sacto stakes and move to Austin, which they now call home when not hitting the road and jamming econo.

Antenna Farm Records is pleased to present Chateau Crone, the upcoming sophomore album from Agent Ribbons. Releasing October 12th, the album was recorded by Manny Nieto (The Breeders, HEALTH) and Scott McChane (editor of Tape Op) and is the most accomplished Agent Ribbons recording yet. It is also a manifesto of sorts, a call to arms and open invitation for all aspiring Chateau Cronies to join them on their future Crone estate, and each CD comes with a 24 page booklet outlining plans for the Chateau as well as a temporary tattoo with the Chateau Crone crest.

Positive press is already rolling in, and the first single from Chateau Crone is featured this week on NPR’s All Songs Considered. You can listen here, or check out the tune below. And with a live show that matches the passion and energy of their new album, we are pleased to announce that Agent Ribbons will be touring the US with Girl In a Coma this August and September, full dates to be announced soon.

ANT534 – Agent Ribbons – Chateau Crone

Taking notes from bands like the Shaggs, the Boswell Sisters and the Zombies, Agent Ribbons reconcile seemingly unrelated genres, sounding like Girls in the Garage doing the Three Penny opera.

CHATEAU CRONE is Agent Ribbons second full-length album, following the band’s self-released “On Time Travel and Romance” and two vinyl singles released through Acuarela and Seven Inch Project.  Each copy of CHATEAU CRONE comes with a 24 page full-color booklet all about their future dream estate, where they can grow old together in a supportive, artistic atmosphere outside the realms of society’s oppressive expectations of aging women.  For other aspiring Chateau Cronies that share their witchy, Golden Girls dream, the album also comes with a full-color temporary tattoo donning the official crest of Chateau Crone.

Some Words About Chateau Crone

“Feel good garage rock” – NPR, All Songs Considered

“Agent Ribbons’ forthcoming Chateau Crone finds the candy-colored Bay Area expats leaving the cabaret for Max’s Kansas City…” – The Onion

“Chateau Crone is a delightfully eccentric charmer of a debut record. Tracyannne Campbell from Camera Obscura is already a fan. This record will make one of you.” – Kansas City Free Press

“The ladies of Agent Ribbons combine dreamy baroque pop with a startling garage-rock edge. ” – LA Times

“blessed with lovely soaring voices and adept musicianship, these ladies flat-out rock in a wonderfully quirky, inventive, and original way. A marvelously offbeat delight.” – Jersey Beat

“The trio tosses dreamy 1960s pop with witchy classical tones for something sweet and spooky.” – Austin Chronicle

“There may be many preshy “dream-girl” bands performing nightly under the radar out there, but perhaps none of them so bewitchingly swoon-worthy yet so storybook-ready to bear both fang and claw as Agent Ribbons” – Amoeblog

Agent Ribbons

The story of Agent Ribbons has not one–but many–beginnings, and fashioning some semblance of chronology from their cut-and-paste four-year history is an art project in and of itself. Originally hailing from the shanty-Victorian streets of downtown Sacramento, they now reside in Austin,TX when they aren’t traveling the world and jamming econo.

The two piece band, made up of Natalie & Lauren Ribbons, keep it simple with their original guitar, drums and vocals line up. Their live shows are a combination of classic pop and muscular hard edges, bringing both an honest minimalism and unapologetic theatricality to their live shows.

Agent Ribbons isn’t just a band–it’s a tree house club of post-feminist dreamers trying to find their place in the scheme of things, like a hand-sewn and lovingly-crafted garment in a modern, disposable world. Listening to everything from Eartha Kitt to the Velvet Underground and taking notes from bands like The Shaggs, The Boswell Sisters and The Zombies, they miraculously reconcile seemingly-unrelated genres, sounding something like Girls in the Garage doing the Three Penny Opera. Waxing sentimental over the eerie beauty of all things lost to time, the emphasis is undoubtedly in the lyrics, which favor clever turns of phrase and occasional humor, but never at the expense of the melodic integrity of their catchy, memorable songs.

Since 2007, the band has toured the U.S. more times than they can remember. Some of those tours were with big national acts like Camera Obscura, Cake, Detroit Cobras and Girl in a Coma, and the rest were done vigilante-style in a Chevy Astro.

Antenna Farm released the sophomore album from Agent Ribbons, called Chateau Crone, in October of 2010. As of this writing, the band is hard at work on a limited run EP follow-up for Portland cassette-only label Cassingle And Loving It and a new full length album for Antenna Farm due in late 2012.
