Agent Ribbons release Coney Island video for Jamaica and the Wishing Shrine!

Agent Ribbons - Let Them TalkAgent Ribbons spent all of October on tour, including a bunch of days in New York for CMJ. Towards the end of their stay in the Big Apple, Natalie and Lauren headed out to Coney Island with their friend Jason Hood, who brought with them his trusty Super 8 camera. Once there they got to work shooting footage for a new video.

Of course they had no idea that Hurricane Sandy would roll through just days later, devastating the Brooklyn landmark and forever changing the local landscape.

Jamaica and the Wishing Shrine is a wistful and dreamy ballad from the band’s new EP, Let Them Talk. And the Super 8 format, with it’s ersatz home-movie feel, perfectly match the lyrical themes of nostalgia and a hints of sadness for a friend who has moved on.

All the more poignant then, as plans to rebuild Coney Island will offer an excuse for developers to tear out as much of the old-timey charm as they can, replacing it with generic new seafront attractions. Goodbye hotdog stand, hello Applebee’s.

So enjoy this video from Agent Ribbons, a snapshot of the classic Coney Island that may have been lost forever.

ANT540 – Agent Ribbons – Let Them Talk

Following their breakthrough 2010 album, Chateau Crone, (praised by Vice for it’s “impeccable taste” and by NPR as “Feel-good garage rock.”), Agent Ribbons has a new EP, Let Them Talk, a teaser to a third full-length LP, coming in 2013.

Let Them Talk is a return to the band’s rawer early recordings, with classic Spector-esque stacked girl-group harmonies balancing on top of a raucous rock foundation. Standout track Family Haircut rides a complex and dark minor key melody before riding out on a triumphant harmony line, while the nonchalant opening line of Let Them Talk (“I wanted to keep your baby but I couldn’t look away from the thing that held my gaze”) shows the band hasn’t lost their taste for black humor.

Let Them Talk will appear as a 5 song digital EP available on iTunes, Amazon MP3, eMusic, Spotify, Rhapsody, and countless other digital retailers. It will also appear in physical format as a limited run 7″, complete with a free download of a studio recording of ‘Fucked Up’, a live show favorite not available on the digital EP!

Agent Ribbons return to Oakland for a show with Social Studies, Emily Jane White & More!

Agent Ribbons on the road!Agent Ribbons are headed back into the the studio to start recording a whole new set of songs as a follow up to 2010′s critically acclaimed Chateau Crone.  The band will spend the first week of February recording in their old hometown of Sacramento but are stopping in Oakland for a one-off gig on the way next Friday, January 27th.

But it’s not just any show. This gig will be a blowout as the Ribbons share the stage with fellow AF artists Social Studies, who are also about to head into the studio to record a follow up to their 2010 album Wind Up Wooden Heart. With engineer Eli Crews (who has recorded albums for the likes of Deerhoof and tUnE-yArDs) on the boards we’re looking forward to checking these tunes out!

Also on the bill will be a short solo set by Emily Jane White, a local singer songwriter who we’ve become quite enamored of over here at the AF HQ. More on her in a subsequent post.

Rounding out the bill are openers SunBears! a great indie pop duo out of Florida on their first west coast tour, the norcal retro poppers The Ian Fays, and DJ Zola. This bill is like a ginsu knife set, the hits keep coming!

So come on out, it’s only $5!

New Video for Grey Gardens!

We love fan-made videos! They are always a great surprise, especially when they are done as well as this video from the mysterious picturechris. Taking footage from Grey Gardens, the amazing Maysles documentary on the Beales, and combining it with the Agent Ribbons song inspired by the film? Perhaps a bit predictable…and a little shaky on copyright grounds….but when done this well it’s hard to deny! Kudos!

Grey Gardens appears on Agent Ribbons’ 2010 album, Chateau Crone, available on CD/LP/MP3 at the Antenna Farm Store.

Agent Ribbons release new video!

Happy Memorial Day! Agent Ribbons are on the verge of wrapping up their west coast tour, with just a couple of shows left on their way back to Austin…..a great time to turn back the clock from their new LP Chateau Crone and to release the video for 2009′s ‘That’s Not Edgar’s Heart’ (from the ‘Agent Ribbons and the Star-Crossed Doppleganger‘ courtesy of Seven Inch Project).

Beautifully shot and directed by Ryan McCoy for Blank Productions, it’s their first video for Agent Ribbons. We hope to see more!
