Agent Ribbons release Coney Island video for Jamaica and the Wishing Shrine!

Agent Ribbons - Let Them TalkAgent Ribbons spent all of October on tour, including a bunch of days in New York for CMJ. Towards the end of their stay in the Big Apple, Natalie and Lauren headed out to Coney Island with their friend Jason Hood, who brought with them his trusty Super 8 camera. Once there they got to work shooting footage for a new video.

Of course they had no idea that Hurricane Sandy would roll through just days later, devastating the Brooklyn landmark and forever changing the local landscape.

Jamaica and the Wishing Shrine is a wistful and dreamy ballad from the band’s new EP, Let Them Talk. And the Super 8 format, with it’s ersatz home-movie feel, perfectly match the lyrical themes of nostalgia and a hints of sadness for a friend who has moved on.

All the more poignant then, as plans to rebuild Coney Island will offer an excuse for developers to tear out as much of the old-timey charm as they can, replacing it with generic new seafront attractions. Goodbye hotdog stand, hello Applebee’s.

So enjoy this video from Agent Ribbons, a snapshot of the classic Coney Island that may have been lost forever.

Bart Davenport Tours Germany and Spain!

Bart Davenport in EuropeHappy Thanksgiving! While those of us in the Estados Unidos hunker down for a potentially toxic brew of tryptophan, football, and familial relations, Bart Davenport is keeping the faith with a string of shows in Germany and Spain. Nice!

Bart is finishing up work on his new album, recorded with his LA band, The Art Thieves, with producer Luke Top at the helm. We are big fans of Luke’s, we love his solo work, and we love his band, Fools Gold….and have been cool with this dude since Antenna Farmer Paul K played in the Papercuts band with him ten years ago. (editor’s note: that hurts.)

Meanwhile, Bart’s last release, the Someone2Dance 7″ continues to rock it, with a placement in the new indie film Smashed (it’s got Nic Offerman from Parks & Rec!!), and a spot on the film’s great soundtrack, alongside Sonny & the Sunsets, Smog, Richard & Linda Thompson, and more! We have just a few copies of this 7″ left and it will NOT be re-pressed, so get a copy while you can!

Social Studies ‘Developer’ LP/CD in stores now!

Social Studies - DeveloperStoked! We had a great time last Friday night at the SF Independent as Social Studies sold out one of our favorite rooms in San Francisco for their record release party (special thanks to San Franpsycho, who presented the show and just rocked it right over the top Stallone-style), and now, at last, we are pleased to report that their Developer CD and LP is OUT and IN STORES NOW!!

So yes, find your way to your local mom and pop record store to get your hands on one of these without delay. The 140 gram vinyl sounds amazing, as does the CD (thanks to engineer/producer Eli Crews, we owe you one, buddy!). Of course if there’s not a shop convenient to you, you can also find it at Amazon, but do let us suggest that if mail order is your thing, try out the Antenna Farm Store, orders ship within 24 hours and come with a limited-edition Social Studies tour poster! Find the CD or LP HERE.

Digital? Sure, we got that too. iTunes. Amazon MP3. RdioSpotify.  YES.

Still skeptical? Give this a listen. If you like guitar music, if you like rock music, if you like pop…you’re going to want to hear more. Nuff Said.

Social Studies new LP Developer on iTunes, Record Release show Friday!

Get Psyched! Social Studies are celebrating the upcoming release of their new LP/CD, Developer with a blowout party at the SF Independent this Friday (11/9). Presented by SanFranPsycho, and also featuring the Sam Chase and Jon Gunton, this thing will be a blast. And ticket holders should come by early for a pre-show mixer (free booze and schwag!) at the SanFranPsycho store from 6-8 pm, more details here.

The CD and LP will be in stores next Tuesday, 11/13. And you can still  pre-order a copy from the Antenna Farm Store and we will be shipping to get your copy to you by release date.

But waiting is a drag. That’s why we went ahead and leaked a deluxe version of the album (complete with bonus track!) to iTunes this week. The folks over there are fans of the album and went ahead and included it in their “New and Noteworthy” feature section, so check it out HERE.

Finally….still not sure??? Why not stream the entire album for FREE and see what you think? Our friends over at Paste and Rdio have teamed up to present a full album stream of Developer just for you. Check it out HERE.

Nice! So Bay Area folks, we’ll see you at the SF Indy this Friday night…and for those in LA, Portland, and Seattle, stay tuned for some tourdates later this year!

Social Studies premiere new single – Away For The Weekend + Pre-Order Developer Now!

Social Studies - NightSkySocial Studies have premiered a new single, Away For The Weekend, from their upcoming LP, Developer. The premiere was courtesy of the folks over at Vice.com, who describe the band as ‘like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs only sober.’ After you’ve been compared to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Fleetwood Mac on subsequent single releases, it’s hard to predict what will come next.

But you are invited to make your own comparisons….or just perhaps judge the track on it’s own merits…. scroll down and listen to Away For The Weekend for yourself!

Speaking of Developer, the CD and LP are now available in the Antenna Farm Store for pre-order. Of note: the LP comes with a free MP3 album download, including bonus track ‘No Oh No‘, a relevatory demo from the Developer sessions. All pre-orders will ship in early November, so you will have a copy in hand by street date (November 13th)…and as a bonus, all orders will include a limited edition Social Studies tour poster. So what are you waiting for?! Order Developer now from the AF store!

But back to Away For The Weekend. This is one of our favorite rock cuts of 2013, a defiant kiss off, unapologetic about leaving. The song’s stripped down linear structure rises to a loud, driving climax before the inevitable denouement, culminating with the quiet refrain “I’m not coming back.”

Agent Ribbons at CMJ!

BUST CMJ 2012RIOT ACT CMJ 2012

Yo NYC! Agent Ribbons are in town for CMJ 2012 and are playing two killer parties this week! First they play the Bust Magazine Party at Spike Hill in Brooklyn on Thursday, October 18th, and then the next day (Friday, 10/19) they’re over at Pete’s Candy Store, also in Brooklyn, for the Riot Act CMJ Party.  Both of these parties will be well attended so be sure to RSVP using the links above!

Of course these are daytime shows (the Bust party starts at 2pm and the Riot Act party starts at 4) so I can hear all the gainfully employed fans grumbling already. Well first off, I guess it sucks that Obama has the economy back on track again and you got a job. But don’t worry! Agent Ribbons is playing the very fashionable Bushwick on Sunday night (10/21) with Archie Powell at the Lone Wolf. So no excuses!
