The Dry Spells’ “Too Soon For Flowers” is NPR Album Of The Year!

The Dry Spells

The Best of 2009 lists are rolling in, and Too Soon for Flowers has been selected as 2009′s album of the year by Bob Boilen, host of NPR’s All Songs Considered.

To wit:

“[Too Soon for Flowers] was my comfort record all year long, over and over again I played this record….The Dry Spells mix the best of bands like Fairport Convention (my heart and soul is in love with late-’60s and early-’70s British folk music) and elements of a band like Television in the way they play their instruments and solos. And they have stories in their songs.” — Bob Boilen, NPR

Congrats to the Dry Spells for this honor on their debut album! To check it out for yourself, click here. And to check out the NPR Best of 2009 podcast, go here. Happy Holidays!

Xmas with Sugar & Gold!

Sugar & Gold on Bay BridgedNormally we over here at Antenna Farm Records are a pretty curmudgeonly bunch, willing participants in the war on Christmas. And one of the worst aspects of the whole season is the music, which is for the most part unlistenable treacle. But every once in a while the holiday redeems itself, and I am pleased to report that Sugar & Gold has recorded a Christmas song, called Xmas in Yr Neighborhood. And it’s good! Maybe not good enough for us to start liking Christmas, but enough to exorcize the grinch for a few minutes. To check it out and download it for FREE, head over to the Bay Bridged!
