SXSW 2009: It's a Wrap!!

S&G, Botts and BD band take a breather

Damn. What a total jam. We are amazed at all the folks who were able to put SXSW writeups and photo albums together without a week of detox, but I guess we're just laggers! But really, what is there to report? We drank some yellow beer with death metal pizza. Hooked up with friends from cool labels like Hometapes, EJRC, and Friendly Fire, and partied with our dear friends at Team Clermont. Ate a few TX tacos, which are different than what you get here in CA. And we wore about an inch off our shoe soles running around. But really, what we did was see some amazing shows.

Obviously I gotta call out the killer sets from the 5 AF acts that made it out to Austin, namely The Dry Spells, The Botticellis, Sugar & Gold, Bart Davenport and Still Flyin' as well as AF alumni like The Donkeys and Casiotone for the Painfully Alone. Hott to say the least, and the only complaint on our showcase was that at a certain point it got too crowded to get good photos and there was still a line out the door! What's up with that?!?

Of course we also saw great sets from friends like The Blank Tapes, Fools Gold, The Phenomenal Handclap Band, Excalibrah, Gravy Train!!!! and too many more to mention. And no, we did not care to go see that over hyped Kanyetallica noise, too busy dancing at the Still Flyin' after hours van jam thank you very much!

All in all it was much as it always is, overwhelming and raucous, a total rager. But words don't really cut it, so here are some photos, I'm told they each have a word count of about a thousand. To see the entire stream, hit up the flickr! http://www.flickr.com/photos/antennafarm/

Bart Davenport updates: Daytrotter Session, 4 stars in MOJO, plus Palaces vinyl in the AF Store!!

BD on Daytrotter

Antenna Farm Records is pleased to announce a whole parcel of news about our favorite west coast pop troubadour, Bart Davenport. His fourth solo album, Palaces, released on CD late last year, continues to pull in the critical acclaim, including a great review in the February issue of one our favorite music mags, Mojo.

Serendiptious, you might say, that it coincides with Bart's Daytrotter session going live this week. For those of you not in the know, Daytrotter is one of AF's favorite web entities. Operating out of Rock Island, Il, Daytrotter records high quality live-in-the-studio sessions from touring bands when they come through town and offers them free to visitors, along with great commentary and artwork. It's no wonder that they've had over 5 million downloads in their short history. Past DT sessions have featured AF artists like The Botticellis, The Donkeys and The Papercuts, and this is Bart Davenport's first time, with a session recorded during his fall tour. Check it here:
http://daytrotter.com/article/1595/bart-davenport

Finally, after what seemed like a thousand delays, complications, and downright WTFs, Palaces is at long last available on vinyl! 140 gram, limited edition with a free MP3 download card, this was a long time coming but is well worth the wait. In stores within the next few days, or get your copy at the Antenna Farm Store.

The Botticellis rack up their "Best of 2008 lists", then celebrate with Whitesnake cover

the Botticellis

The Botticellis have been racking up the year-end lists with their debut album, Old Home Movies, released on Antenna Farm Records back in May of 2008. The album earned placements in the top 10s from bloggers at All Music Guide, Tiny Mix Tapes, Future Sounds, Rose Noise, the Thoroughfare, Don't Eat the Yellow Snow, the McCovey Chronicles, Traveler's Diagram....and honorable mentions from Paste, Now Hear This, The Passion of Indie Music, Indie Rock Cafe, and more.

To celebrate, we're sharing the Botticellis version of the perennial Whitesnake classic "Here I Go Again On My Own". Taking a break from the recording sessions for their upcoming sophomore effort, the Botts cranked this out on the fly and we are all the better for it. Find it and other great covers by Au Revoir Simone, Bonde Do Role, Headlights and more on an 80s covers compilation called Rewind 2.0, released by Spanish online label/weblog Buffet Libre.

You might remember this nugget from the glory days of 80s hair metal, but the Botticellis have given it a mighty melancholy twist, imagine it as a lost cut from the "All Things Must Pass" recording sessions. Writhing around on the hood of a Jaguar is recommended, but not required.
