The Blank Tapes played a series of in-store shows over the weekend (including Origami in LA and Stranded in Oakland, pictured at right) to celebrate the release of their brand new LP, Vacation, in stores and on iTunes TODAY!

That’s right, you can mosey on down to your local shop, including those great shops, the Amoebas in LA, Berkeley, and SF, Waterloo in Austin, and a host of others to pick up this great record on CD or LP.

And remember, the LP comes complete with MP3 download, including the digital only, 7 track Holy Roller EP, exclusive to the vinyl edition. Of course if mail order is your thing, you can pick up the album via Amazon, or save a few bucks and head straight to the Antenna Farm Store. Get on it!

Meanwhile, over on the East Coast….

Dana Falconberry plays a Tiny Desk Concert

Dana Falconberry plays a Tiny Desk Concert

Dana Falconberry and her band are on tour and made a special stop in Washington DC to visit the NPR offices….for a Tiny Desk Concert.

If you have never checked one of these out, TDC’s are curated by All Songs Considered‘s Bob Boilen and Robin Hilton, and are a great way to check out your favorite band in a quiet, mellow setting. Painstakingly recorded to tape and video, these tiny concerts are great, and another one of the reasons we love NPR.

The broadcast date on this TDC remains TBA, so stay tuned!

Brutal new postal rates = Sorry, Canada & Europe!!

Greetings to our friends in Europe! Although we have already seen our CD and LP sales to your fine territories drop off due to ill-advised austerity measures and self-imposed recessions on the part of your political leaders, apparently there was not enough being done to completely wipe out the business of exporting American physical music to discerning European listeners.

Well, that oversight has been corrected with a brand new update of postal rates to Canada and Europe from the US!

Beginning today, it will cost us $13 American dollars to ship a compact disc or a 7″ record to any European recipient. An LP will come in at almost $20! Yes! That means we will be paying almost double we charge for the item just to ship it to you!

And, yeah, we sure wouldn’t want to leave our Canadian siblings up north out of the fun! So we have new rates for you as well, friends: it now costs almost $8 to ship a CD, $9 to ship a 7″ and a whopping $12 to ship an LP to you!

Jokes aside, it really kills us that running a small business as we do that we cannot afford to absorb much of these new costs and simply have to pass them along to our loyal customers. But we really have no choice, and that sucks. So please accept our apologies on behalf of our bankrupt postal service, and their seeming desire to deprive you of our CDs and LPs.

And of course all of our titles are available in digital format on iTunes, 7Digital, and hundreds of other digital retailers in your home country. It’s no substitute for holding the music in your hands, but perhaps this is the way of the future?

Social Studies – Terracur single on iTunes now!

Social Studies - TerracurJust a heads up that the first single from Social Studies‘ upcoming album, Developer, is now available on iTunes! Terracur is one of our favorite tracks off the new album, and the description of the song from Nylon Mag captures it quite well:

“The track starts off like a Rumours-era Fleetwood Mac slow-burner, but delivers a kick to the gut about a minute in, as shimmering keyboard notes explode like fireworks over Natalia Rogovin’s soulful intonations. Which is another way of saying, we love it.”

The B-side is an exclusive to this release, a remix of Holler Boys, from 2010′s Wind Up Wooden Heart, done by the inimitable Sugar & Gold. Good stuff.

And those of you in California, don’t forget! Social Studies hits the road this week for a short set of Bay Area and Los Angeles dates. Check it:

Foxtails Brigade release final Farmhouse Series video!

Foxtails Brigade have released the 4th and final video in their Farmhouse Series, a set of live performance videos captured by Jack Conte of Pomplamoose. This one is for Long Day, one of our favorite cuts off of 2011′s The Bread and the Bait.

Foxtails Brigade have been super busy this summer, with a set of new recordings in the works and a series of festival gigs, but they return to SF for a special show at the Bottom of the Hill in a couple of weeks (Saturday, September 1st) for a show with the excellent Yesway and Whiskerman. For tickets, click the image to the right.

And yes, the video! For those who haven’t caught one of the earlier entries in the series, these were strictly live performances with no overdubs or do-overs, but shot with multiple cameras and edited in the ‘Pomplamoose’ style (thanks Jack!). You can check them out here.

Antenna Farm Signs Dana Falconberry, Leelanau LP coming this fall!

Dana Falconberry - LeelanauAntenna Farm is proud to announce the newest addition to our roster, Austin artist Dana Falconberry. We are super excited to be releasing Leelanau this fall, Dana’s third full length album and her first release for AF!

Dana came to our attention earlier this year when we heard her Though I Didn’t Call It Came EP, released in January on Sacramento’s Crossbill Records. A look at her significant role in Echotone, a great documentary on the Austin Music scene and a NY Times Critics Pick, was intriguing. But seeing her perform with a full band at SXSW really sealed the deal for us.

More on Leelanau after the jump, but first check out lead single Lake Charlevoix from this week’s premiere, courtesy of Nylon Mag:
