Social Studies Record Release Party This Saturday, West Coast Tour Dates!!

Social Studies Record Release Party!Alright!

Social Studies‘ debut album, Wind Up Wooden Heart, is a hit, with some great new reviews rolling in, including a choice entry over at All Music Guide, to wit:  “An epic flair that suggests Ben Hur transformed into an indie pop operetta.” Whoah.

The album has also made editor’s picks over at digital retailers iTunes and 7digital (I might add that for a limited time, you can pick up a high quality MP3 version at 7Digital for under $7!) as well as indie mail order super store, Insound. Of course, you can also grab a copy right here at the Antenna Farm store. Orders ship next day, and come with a free poster. And for a limited time, we’re offering a 15% discount on ALL purchases through the AF store, just enter promo code “windup” at checkout! So if you haven’t yet, head on over to the AF Store!

But Social Studies have not just produced a great album, they are also an excellent live act. To put it succinctly, they are ace bunny-killers and tougher than leather.  And you can quote us on that. While getting ready for a full US tour in October, the band is playing their All Ages record release party in San Francisco this Saturday (August 7th) at the Rickshaw Stop with local heroes Maus Haus, 60 Watt Kid, and Montra. This show will likely sell out, so get advance tix here. For more info on the show, and to see which of your friends are already going, check the Book of Faces.

Social Studies will follow up the show this Saturday with a short run up and down the West Coast, including a couple of stops at some of our fave record stores for in-store performances (check out Millennium Music in Portland, and Origami Vinyl in Los Angeles!). If you have not yet checked this band live, drop what you’re doing, change your plans, and get on it! Tour dates below!

Wind Up Wooden Heart In Stores Today!

Social Studies Street Team!Yes!

Today marks the official release date for the Social Studies debut album Wind Up Wooden Heart, and it is in stores now!

WUWH is one of our favorite releases of 2010, but don’t take our word for it! The album has been called “Infectiously Catchy” by NME.com, RCRD.LBL declares “Excellent. Social Studies make twee sound brawny. Who else does that?“, and 7×7 Magazine says “Listen once and be mesmerized by catchy hooks and mellifluous choruses. Revisit it and you’ll find lyrics that strike chords of nostalgia, regret, renewal and joy….You’ll be hooked.

You can get your copy today from a variety of sources. Of course our first recommendation is your local record store, which you should be supporting anyway if you like music! Seattle folks can find copies at Sonic Boom or Easy Street, in Portland head over to Music Millenium (and watch for an in-store appearance there next month!) and in the Bay Area, head over to SF institution Aquarius, the folks who are also presenting the Social Studies record release party next week. Copies are also available at all California Amoebas and Rasputin’s locations. If you order from Insound, you can get a free poster with your order, while supplies last.

Of course, if digital is your thing, you can find a copy at itunes, Amazon, emusic, or your favorite digital retailer.

And yes, Wind Up Wooden Heart is also available at the Antenna Farm Store, where you can take advantage of a 15% discount on ALL orders (just use promo code “windup” at checkout) plus a free poster while supplies last. So what are you waiting for? Get on it!

Social Studies premiere new video for Time Bandit, album available NOW!

Social Studies - Wind Up Wooden HeartAlright!

Social Studies are on a roll! They played an amazing set in San Francisco last Saturday, opening for Au Revoir Simone, joining the headliner on stage for an impromptu surprise birthday celebration for ARS keyboardist Annie Hart.

And then today, the band rolled out their new video for Time Bandit, premiering it on the Venus Magazine site, scroll down to check it out, or check it on the Venus page. This is the first single from the band’s upcoming debut album, Wind Up Wooden Heart, due in stores July 27th.

So how can we at the ever-humble Antenna Farm Records keep up with these rockers? Well, how about making the album available NOW?!?!? That’s right! While the album will be available on iTunes/Amazon/your local music retailer on July 27th, we’re jumping the gun and making the WUWH cd available exclusively through the Antenna Farm Store starting now!

All Wind Up Wooden Heart orders will include a free poster and sticker, while supplies last. And that’s not all! For a limited time, enter promo code “windup” for a 15% discount on ALL purchases through the AF store!

So just to recap, you can wait for 2 more weeks and get the cd/download from your retailer of choice…..or you can swing by the Antenna Farm store and order it NOW. We will be shipping daily, first class mail, so you’ll have your cd, poster and sticker within 2-4 days! Plus, you can nail a 15% discount! All this because we love you too much for our own good.

Social Studies on NME and RCRD.LBL!

Social Studies just wrapped up a couple of weeks of touring and are gearing up for the release of their debut album, Wind Up Wooden Heart, at the end of July.

But it looks like we’re not the only ones excited about their upcoming album…..a couple of tracks have leaked to one of our fave music sites, RCRD.LBL. This, in turn, led to bloggers at NME.com picking up the story. Ain’t the internet great?!?

Social Studies Head East!

Social Studies SF Popfest1Wow. We caught an amazing show Thursday night, as Social Studies pretty much killed it, opening for Tune-Yards at the Rickshaw Stop, part of this year’s SF Popfest. This band just gets better and better, and their new guitarist Tom has definitely bumped the chemistry level up to ‘imminent explosion’.

They are mid-way through a string of tour dates, and are headed east to Chicago, their first show on this leg is tonight, at Kilby Court in Salt Lake City. Mormons, Mile-High types, and Mid-westerners, you’ve been warned! More photos from Thursday night’s show and tour dates below. Excelsior!

Social Studies and Still Flyin’ play SF Popfest this week!

Hey Bay Area peoples! Catch a couple of Antenna Farm bands playing this week as part of the SF Popfest!

Thursday night, Antenna Farm’s newest act, Social Studies, return to SF after a couple of weeks of west coast touring, to support the excellent tUnE-yArDs. The great Eux Autres are also on the bill, it should be a great night. For more info, click here.

Then, on Saturday night, Still Flyin’ opens for a reunion of the All Girl Summer Fun Band. Still Flyin’ has been burning up the UK and just played the All Tomorrow’s Parties festival; they have a couple of new singles that are great, and this is going to be a killer show. More info here.

Both shows are at the wonderful Rickshaw Stop in SF, and both may well sell out, advance tickets strongly advised!

Social Studies West Coast & Midwest Tour Dates!

Social Studies Spring Tour 2010San Francisco’s Social Studies take a break from prepping for the release of their debut album, Wind Up Wooden Heart (out in late July on Antenna Farm) to play some west coast and midwest shows starting this weekend.

Notable stops include the Silverlake Jubilee Festival in Los Angeles, The Subterranean in Chicago, and Porterpalooza on the UCSC campus, but the show we’re most excited about over here at the AF Headquarters is the Sunday show in Fresno, and it’s not just because they’re playing with buzz band Rademacher. No, it’s because they’re playing Audie’s Olympic, which we last saw in Pee-Wee’s Big adventure, playing the part of the nasty biker bar! Sweet!

But wherever you are, when Social Studies rolls through your town, cancel your plans and catch them where you can. They put on a great show, and this is a record we are really excited about.

Antenna Farm Presents…..Social Studies!

Social Studies
Antenna Farm is pleased to welcome San Francisco’s Social Studies to the AF family. Their unique combination of angular indie rock and classic twee-pop will be familiar to Bay Area folks who may have seen them over the past couple of years, sharing stages with the likes of Dungen, The Pipettes, The Long Blondes, and Handsome Furs. Their high energy live shows, combined with eclectic and unpredictable yet completely catchy songwriting won us over here at Antenna Farm, and we jumped at the chance to work with them. I guess you could say they had us the minute they threw verse/chorus/verse out the window, and when you give them a listen, we think you’ll see what we mean.

Social Studies are putting the finishing touches on their debut album, Wind Up Wooden Heart, as we speak and are prepping for a late July release date. Meanwhile, the band is prepping some May tourdates, stay tuned for more on that very soon. For now, check out Time Bandit, the lead single from Wind Up Wooden Heart.
