Emily Jane White’s new Blood/Lines LP out now!

Emily Jane White - Blood/Lines

Emily Jane White‘s new LP, Blood/Lines is out now, courtesy of French imprint Talitres. Watch for a domestic version, courtesy of Important, in November.

Recorded in a secluded studio in Sonoma County, California, the quiet environment provided Emily a place to explore new directions and avenues with artistic integrity and creative control. Blood/Lines layers synthesizer, electric guitar and multiple tracks of vocals into nine heavily reverbed songs that mark a departure from Emily’s earlier gothic folk sound.

With the help of friends and collaborators, Emily’s worlds were diversified with strings, backing vocals, and heavy drums, creating dark and somber atmospheres through bright sounds, rhythmic drive, and pop sensibility. Fans of 2012′s Ode To Sentience (still available at the AF Store and on iTunes!) will be immediately entranced; Emily’s vignettes of love, anger, and violence will ring true, but in a whole new way.

Emily Jane White’s Blood/Lines is available on CD and LP from the Talitres web store.

The cd is a deluxe matte digipak with new artwork and a bonus track not included on the European edition. Folks who prefer physical albums over iTunes downloads will find this to be well worth the wait!

This title is, of course, available on Amazon, iTunes, and all of those big retailers, but we suggest you head on down to your local mom & pop record store to support a local business with your discerning music purchase. Ode To Sentience is Emily Jane White‘s third album, and her most realized to date. Drawing upon finger-picked folk, traditional country, classical music and rock, White creates an expansive space for her intuitive lyrics and elegiac vocals. The spare skeletons of the songs on Ode to Sentience are fleshed out with subdued electric guitar thrums, diaphanous organ, ethereal pedal steel guitar, lush strings, and White’s dusky alto with its signature catch.

Want to check it out before you buy? The fine folks at Spinner are hosting a full album stream all week. Check Ode To Sentience out in it’s entirety HERE.

Finally, if you’re in the SF Bay Area, join us tonight for a record release celebraish over at Brick & Mortar, as Emily will be playing Ode To Sentience in it’s entirety with a full backing band. She will be joined by Sacramento’s Two Sheds and Jon Porras (of Barn Owl). Not to be missed.

Not in the Bay? Don’t worry, after this, EJW heads east for another couple of weeks of shows. For a full itinerary, click here.

Emily Jane White releases Requiem Waltz single to iTunes!

The second single from Emily Jane White‘s upcoming Ode To Sentience album releases to iTunes today!

Requiem Waltz is a dark meditation on loss and helplessness in the face of destructive acts by the ones we love…with a haunting piano motif throughout. Emily describes the origins of the song, courtesy of American Songwriter:

““Requiem Waltz was originally written on guitar, but I later re-wrote it for the piano and liked that version much better. Once the song was finished I presented it to Carey Lamprecht [violin] and Jen Grady [cello] during a rehearsal in Jen’s livingroom, and together they came up with the beautiful string arrangement. I think we performed it for the first time that very same summer at a show with The Mumlers at The Hemlock Tavern in San Francisco.”

The Requiem Waltz single is available on iTunes Now!

Emily Jane White’s third album, Ode To Sentience is her most realized work to date. Drawing upon finger-picked folk, traditional country, classical music and rock, White creates an expansive space for her intuitive lyrics and elegiac vocals. Ode To Sentience will be released in the United States on June 12th, 2012.
