This week in the Bay: Shows with Foxtails Brigade, Bart Davenport, Social Studies and more!

Wow, got a bunch of shows to share with you this week, dear reader….for fans of Antenna Farm artists in the Bay Area, the coming week is a veritable embarrassment of riches, so get out your datebook!

First is this Thursday (7/21) at the New Parish in Oakland. Antenna Farm is pleased to be presenting a great show at Oakland’s coolest new venue. Foxtails Brigade headlines this show, playing songs from their critcally acclaimed new album ‘The Bread and the Bait‘ (“skillfully executed sounds that are simultaneously childlike and wise beyond their years” – Bitch Magazine) with The Botticellis showing off a new lineup and a bunch of new songs in the middle slot. Opening the show is friend of the label and stringmetal masters Judgement Day, doing a rare semi-acoustic set. Get advance tickets here.

The following night, Friday (7/22), Bart Davenport returns to Berkeley’s Starry Plough for his first Bay Area show in months! Bart’s been on tour in Europe for the better part of the last 3 months, playing shows with his bands Honeycut, Incarnations, and of course plenty of solo gigs. But it’s about time Bart gets back to the Bay, it just hasn’t been quite the same without him! You can expect to hear a few songs from Bart’s new covers album ‘Searching For Bart Davenport‘ plus the songs Bart is recording now for an Antenna Farm 7″ release this fall!

Then on Sunday (7/24), SF’s Social Studies return to the SF Indie Mart at San Francisco’s Parkside Theater. The Indie Mart is an excellent marketplace for a bunch of SF’s coolest independent designers, you can go and support local artisans while enjoying BBQ, cheap beer and excellent music! All proceeds benefit the indefatigable founder of SF Indie Mart, Kelly Malone, in her battle with cancer (the big C may have messed with the wrong person this time!). Indie Mart starts at noon, and Social Studies play at 6pm sharp!

Finally, old friend of the label Lana Rebel is playing the El Rio next Wednesday (7/27). Lana jams some serious country rock, more real than the tear in your beer. She’s joined by relentless troubadour Eric Shea’s country outfit, Sweet Charity, and we know this will be a killer show.

Whew, quite a week! Get your live music on and we’ll see you out in the clubs!

Foxtails Brigade, The Botticellis, and Judgement Day in Oakland!

Hey yeah! Next Thursday, July 21st, join us for a special evening of music presented by Antenna Farm Records at the New Parish in Oakland. The Botticellis are celebrating a new lineup and a bunch of newly recorded songs, and Judgement Day will be doing a special acoustic set. And then, of course, there’s Foxtails Brigade, who put on a live show you won’t soon forget.
And if you are a Bay Area person and haven’t yet checked out the New Parish, you owe it to yourself to rectify that. This is a great new venue in Oakland: nice comfortable room, great sound, and great booking. It has quickly become one of our favorite East Bay spots, and is a much needed addition to Oakland nightlife.

Here’s the details:

We Are All Awesome!

We Are All AwesomeEvery once in a while, we at Antenna Farm are reminded of how lucky we are to be doing what we’re doing: working with some of the most talented musicians and creative artists we know, doing our small part to bring their work to the world at large. A little gushy, maybe, but what can I say, Agent Ribbons just rolled through town last night and it was, as usual, incredible. So forgive us if the language becomes a bit…florid. We’re in mid-transcendence here!

Over the years, it has been our pleasure to release debut releases from the likes of PapercutsThe Donkeys,The BotticellisStill Flyin’ and Sugar & Gold, as well as albums from Bart DavenportSocial StudiesAgent Ribbons and many more. With a brand new album from Foxtails Brigade, we are going strong.

And with that, we are pleased to release a brand new compilation of some of our favorite tracks from the last few years. We Are All Awesome is a love letter back to these great musicians and a tribute to their craft. Featuring some of our favorite cuts from the last few years worth of AF releases, this is a great way to get yourself acquainted, or re-acquainted with the Antenna Farm catalog. And best of all, it can be yours for free!

Already charting on a bunch of great radio stations across the US, including (just to name a few!)  KFAI, KDVS, KVCU, KGNU, WRUW, KUCR, KALX, WNYU, KCSB, KTCV, KCPR (#1, baby!) & KXLU, this little collection is just the thing to help you kick off your summer jam.

And yeah, I said it, FREE. Just scroll over to the right side of this page and sign up for our mailing list (we send out updates about once a month, with tour info, free music offers, and more….and we will never share your email with anyone!) for a free, instant download of this great 15 song collection including the artists above and more! SXSW 2009: It’s a Wrap!!

S&G, Botts and BD band take a breather

Damn. What a total jam. We are amazed at all the folks who were able to put SXSW writeups and photo albums together without a week of detox, but I guess we’re just laggers! But really, what is there to report? We drank some yellow beer with death metal pizza. Hooked up with friends from cool labels like Hometapes, EJRC, and Friendly Fire, and partied with our dear friends at Team Clermont. Ate a few TX tacos, which are different than what you get here in CA. And we wore about an inch off our shoe soles running around. But really, what we did was see some amazing shows.

Obviously I gotta call out the killer sets from the 5 AF acts that made it out to Austin, namely The Dry Spells, The Botticellis, Sugar & Gold, Bart Davenport and Still Flyin’ as well as AF alumni like The Donkeys and Casiotone for the Painfully Alone. Hott to say the least, and the only complaint on our showcase was that at a certain point it got too crowded to get good photos and there was still a line out the door! What’s up with that?!?

Of course we also saw great sets from friends like The Blank Tapes, Fools Gold, The Phenomenal Handclap Band, Excalibrah, Gravy Train!!!! and too many more to mention. And no, we did not care to go see that over hyped Kanyetallica noise, too busy dancing at the Still Flyin’ after hours van jam thank you very much!

All in all it was much as it always is, overwhelming and raucous, a total rager. But words don’t really cut it, so here are some photos, I’m told they each have a word count of about a thousand. To see the entire stream, hit up the flickr! http://www.flickr.com/photos/antennafarm/
