Tele Novella – Trouble In Paradise

New video from Tele Novella for Umbrella at the Station!

Tele Novella

Tele Novella

Are you familiar with Tele Novella yet? Come on! If you find yourself here at the old Antenna Farm feeding post, then you probably know Agent Ribbons, whose amazing album, Chateau Crone, we released back in 2010.

Well, anyways, Agent Ribbons released one more 7″ after that, the fabs Let Them Talk 7″ back in 2012. And then they spiraled into oblivion, like Led Zeppelin or the Knack.

Well Natalie Ribbons is back with a new band, bringing in friends from Austin who’ve done time in cool bands like Voxtrot and Belaire. The result: Tele Novella.

They just released their first single, and BUST magazine was kind enough to share the video for the B-Side, Umbrella at the Station. We are digging this for sure.

Check out Austin’s Tele Novella!

SXSW Wrap-Up!

Social Studies

Yup, that was great. A big thanks to everyone who came out to spend some time in Austin with us, we had a great time chasing around Social Studies, The Blank Tapes, Dana Falconberry, and the brand new project from Agent Ribbons‘ front-woman Natalie Ribbons: Tele Novella. Also a special thanks to the amazing Body Parts and So Many Wizards, who were kind enough to join us on our SXSW showcase last week at Valhalla.

Dana Falconberry

And we had some nice words come in from the various press who came out: Social Studies reminded a Vice correspondent that he was, in fact, here for the music, likening them to Beach House jamming with Ratatat. The New York TimesJon Pareles raved about Dana Falconberry: “Her music is gentle yet intricate: a rusticated chamber music using banjo, cello, and staggered, contrapuntal vocal harmonies with the other women in her band, in songs full of wordless interludes that unfurled a skein of possibilities.” And Ann Powers of NPR called The Blank Tapes one of her picks for SXSW: “I actually really liked Blank Tapes, they were kind of a bent version of 60′s pop and they were really fun.”

So, yeah. Thanks again to everyone, and we’ll see you next year!

Agent Ribbons release Coney Island video for Jamaica and the Wishing Shrine!

Agent Ribbons - Let Them TalkAgent Ribbons spent all of October on tour, including a bunch of days in New York for CMJ. Towards the end of their stay in the Big Apple, Natalie and Lauren headed out to Coney Island with their friend Jason Hood, who brought with them his trusty Super 8 camera. Once there they got to work shooting footage for a new video.

Of course they had no idea that Hurricane Sandy would roll through just days later, devastating the Brooklyn landmark and forever changing the local landscape.

Jamaica and the Wishing Shrine is a wistful and dreamy ballad from the band’s new EP, Let Them Talk. And the Super 8 format, with it’s ersatz home-movie feel, perfectly match the lyrical themes of nostalgia and a hints of sadness for a friend who has moved on.

All the more poignant then, as plans to rebuild Coney Island will offer an excuse for developers to tear out as much of the old-timey charm as they can, replacing it with generic new seafront attractions. Goodbye hotdog stand, hello Applebee’s.

So enjoy this video from Agent Ribbons, a snapshot of the classic Coney Island that may have been lost forever.

Yo NYC! Agent Ribbons are in town for CMJ 2012 and are playing two killer parties this week! First they play the Bust Magazine Party at Spike Hill in Brooklyn on Thursday, October 18th, and then the next day (Friday, 10/19) they’re over at Pete’s Candy Store, also in Brooklyn, for the Riot Act CMJ Party.  Both of these parties will be well attended so be sure to RSVP using the links above!

Of course these are daytime shows (the Bust party starts at 2pm and the Riot Act party starts at 4) so I can hear all the gainfully employed fans grumbling already. Well first off, I guess it sucks that Obama has the economy back on track again and you got a job. But don’t worry! Agent Ribbons is playing the very fashionable Bushwick on Sunday night (10/21) with Archie Powell at the Lone Wolf. So no excuses!

Agent Ribbons win Dub Narcotic Studio Contest!

Agent Ribbons - TreeJust a quick note to congratulate Agent Ribbons on winning a contest put on by the incredible folks at the Dub Narcotic Studios in Olympia for five days of free studio time! The band corralled thousands of their fans to vote on their behalf, and in the end, the band with the most votes won the time. It wasn’t even close.

Dub Narcotic holds a special place in our hearts, as the home of Calvin Johnson and K Records, one of the prime movers in the 90s indie explosion and a continuing influence on DIY pop today. This is ground zero for the International Pop Underground folks! [editors note: younger readers who are not nearly as old and decrepit as the author may have to look this one up...]

It’s great news, and perfectly timed to coincide with the release of the new Agent Ribbons EP Let Them Talk and a fall tour for the band! Check out tour dates here.

And if you haven’t seen the new video for Family Haircut, check it out!

Agent Ribbons – Let Them Talk EP in stores today + Tour Dates Announced!

Agent Ribbons - Let Them TalkYes! Agent Ribbons release their new ‘Let Them Talk‘ EP today, available as a 2 song 7″ with a bonus download track, or as a 5 track digital EP at iTunes, Amazon, and other online retailers. The EP has already garnered some great reviews, like these:

“The Dreamiest.” - Vice

“The girls are able to create eerie stories that draw in listeners—all in the nice package of a pop song” - Paste

“beautifully haunting sounds and harmonies.  ” - Bust

But don’t take their words for it….Impose.com is offering a free stream of the full Let Them Talk EP all this week! Head over there to check it out. And then hit iTunes or the AF store to get a copy for yourself!

Of course if you are on the east coast or the midwest, you can hold out and get a copy from the band directly. Agent Ribbons is heading out on a 6 week tour including stops at Daytrotter and CMJ. Tour starts September 20th, and you’re invited!
