Yeah, we’re stoked. Social Studies are putting the final touches on their new album, called Developer, set for release on November 13th. They leaked the first single to Nylon mag last week, the killer slow burn Terracur. Check it here.
With a fervent west coast fan base thanks to their arch take on modernist pop (as heard on 2010 release Wind Up Wooden Heart) and an electric live show, Social Studies headed into the studio earlier this year intending to streamline their sound and recreate their live sound as best they could. To that end they recruited producer and engineer Eli Crews (tUnE-yArDs, Deerhoof, Thao & Mirah), an excellent match who brought an unparalleled feel of immediacy to the recordings.
Developer releases on LP/CD/MP3 on November 13th. First single Terracur goes to iTunes/Spotify/Amazon Tuesday September 4th. But you can download it right now, for free, using the link above!
And yeah, we know it’s a long time until November, and waiting is a bitch. Well if you’re in California, you’re in luck. Social Studies is doing a short string of shows starting next week, so you can check out a raft of these new jams first hand! Check it:
